Blog 2: Bicycle Repairs and Fabrication

My Topic and Why?

My hobby and passion has been bicycle riding since the day I learned how to. Bikes of all kinds have interested me in the simplicity and variance of the one idea. The idea of you getting an immediate product from the energy you put into this machine give me a feeling of accomplishment to know that when I reach my destination via my own perseverance gives me a satisfaction of knowing I made the effort and it paid off. I want everyone else to appreciate that feeling of accomplishment within themselves. However, if someones bicycle they own is unsafe and unable to be ridden, I want to be able to help that person to once again regain the ability to enjoy their bike. So for my project I would like to study every aspect of the invention of the bicycle. My goal is to one day help more people experience the feeling of going as far as they are willing to take themselves.

  • iPoly Citizen:  I plan to help customers with any problems they may be experience with their bicycles by teaching them when and how to properly change gears, if they have them, so they can use their bike to its full extent. This will help become an iPoly citizen by making me happier knowing that now this person will no longer struggle while using their bikes, but instead become a better overall rider.
  • Effective Communicator:  I plan to watch and learn as much as I can from my mentor as he teaches me easier ways or doing things when repairing parts or adjusting them to the customers liking. this will help me communicate more by allowing me to follow directions and instruction quicker so that after time I can become a better rider because I will know how to adjust my own bike in a way that is properly suited exactly to myself.
  • Effective Learner:  I plan to pay extrememly close attention so that I learn as much as I can without using up too much of my mentors time. I will research more about the techniques and proper procedures for going about repairs on certain parts from the company's ,that manufactured the bike, own directions.
  • Effective User of Technology: I plan to use the database that the store has set up to research the best value of parts for customers that are serious about the bikes they own so to not overcharge them for parts that will not hold up to the standard I will trying to uphold. Also I will use the many tools and machines we have set up in the shop to my advantage in making my job easier when repairing the bikes.
